How to Deal With A Crying Baby On Photo Session

Today, we photographed a little handsome- real handsome boy. Photo session went not that I expected. Since the session was at 10am the baby wanted to take a nap in the middle of the shoot. He started to cry and didn't want to "cooperate". I ask mom to feed a little bit, and she did, but that was not enough. The baby wanted a nap!!! Ok,  we decided to give him couple minutes to nap, since my next session supposed to start at 3:30pm I didn't rush.
Waking up the baby for me was similar to a crime. I didn't want to do it. It made me feel so sorry for this little munchkin. Since they signed for mini session we had to do it.
We made couple more shots and ended session.
Sometime you will have a situation like that and you have to deal with it. There are smooth and perfect sessions, but also there are few that you can't control but still have to deal with them. There are couple suggestions about it:
  1.  Make parents feel good, make sure they understand that is not their fault, (because kids feels mom's or dad’s frustration and it can impact on their mood. Remember things happened.
  2. Give a little snack (ask permission), or sip of water, or if that a newborn milk to bring back their energy.
  3. Stop making pose where baby started to cry. (Sometimes we think only about good shot, but not about baby's feelings)
  4. Give a little break to the baby and ask parents to sit and calm the baby in a regular way - without extra "look"- "peek-a-boo" and loud noises.
  5.  You can snap those scenes and they will be as much awesome as posed ones.
  6.   This is not your fault either, don’t feel bad, nor show your feelings to the clients.

This Friday there will be a video about it. Subscribe to our YouTube channel to watch it, comment if you have questions and “like” it if you found that helpful.
